The
clients for this Master Bedroom had lived in Hong Kong and recently
visited the Raffles Hotel in Singapore, where they developed a deep
appreciation for Asian-British Colonial architecture and interiors.
They were looking to bring this type of lavish ambience into their
own home. With that theme as a departure, we agreed to focus on
a palette of natural materials like rattan, bamboo, and wicker.
The addition of other natural materials like cotton, mahogany, and
woven leather reinforces the casual yet elegant style.
I planned the space in a simple, functional manner and carefully
selected the furniture and lamps, with the exception of the settee
which was previously owned. I chose the color palette and the fabrics
for the window treatment and bedding. I also selected the floor
covering, the ceiling fan, and the artwork, which includes antique
maps from the East Indies and a view of Hong Kong harbor.
